The Kentucky Governor’s Scholars Program (GSP) recently announced the names of approximately 1,020 high school juniors from across the state who were chosen for their 2022 summer program. We are very proud to announce that Todd County Junior Ashlyn Monroe was among those selected to attend.
Todd County Central High School Juniors Logan Cherry, Jose Flores, and Emily Oden were previously selected for the highly competitive summer Kentucky Governor’s Scholars Program.
The Governor’s Scholars Program originated in 1983 as a competitive but cost-free enrichment program. The goal is to encourage promising young people to understand the potential to enrich their talents and give back to their communities in the Commonwealth. Alumni of the Governor’s Scholars Program are eligible for a wide variety of undergraduate scholarships from private and public schools in Kentucky. The residential program is held over five weeks on the campuses of Centre College in Danville, Morehead State University in Morehead, and Bellarmine University in Louisville. While on campus for the program, students take in-depth exploratory and inquiry classes, conduct service projects, and participate in clubs, discussions, and lecture sessions.
Students chosen for the program must complete an extensive application which includes essays, descriptions of their service, activities, and awards, teacher and community recommendations, and academic information including a standardized test score like the ACT. The program is extremely competitive; selected students were chosen from nearly 2,000 state-level applications.
