HOPFAME is the Hopkinsville chapter of the Kentucky Federation of Advanced Manufacturing Education (KYFAME), which is a partnership of regional manufacturers and Hopkinsville Community College who are working together to implement apprentice-style training to create a pipeline of highly-skilled workers.
HOPFAME students who complete the program will earn an Associate in Applied Science degree in Industrial Maintenance Technology / Advanced Manufacturing Technician in five consecutive semesters. Students are selected for participation after meeting academic requirements and completing an application and interview process. Participants attend class at Hopkinsville Community College two days each week and work for their sponsoring company three days a week giving them the opportunity to immediately apply higher education concepts to real-world work situations.
Six students graduated from HCC's first KYFAME cohort in May 2018. The seven students in the second cohort begin their fourth semester August 13. The 19 students in this class make up the programs's third cohort. Four graduates of Todd County Central High School signed with companies to begin apprenticeships. Mr. Edwin Oyler, Superintendent of Todd County Schools, was present to witness students signing.
