Todd County Central is in the Class 2A football playoffs regardless of the outcome of their Friday game with Butler County. However, they need to win and a McLean County win to avoid top-ranked Mayfield in the first round.
The Rebels are 1-2 in district play and own a win over 1-2 Hancock County. McLean County is 2-1, and Butler County is 0-3. Owensboro Catholic has already locked down the No. 1 seed and homefield advantage in the first three rounds of the playoffs.
Here are the scenarios for the Rebels:
• If McLean County beats Hancock County and Todd County beats Butler County, McLean will be the No. 2 seed, Todd County will be the No. 3 seed, and Hancock County would be the No. 4 seed.
• If McLean County wins and Todd County loses, the Rebels are still the No. 3 seed because they beat Hancock County head-to-head.
• If Hancock County beats McLean County and Todd County wins, all three teams would have 2-2 district records. McLean County would likely get the No. 2 seed based on the tie-breaker system for the points they get for the number of wins of the opponents they beat. Points would still be too close to call between Hancock and Todd. Both teams have four points entering this week. Todd County closes out the season against 7-1 Logan County, while Hancock County plays 3-5 Breckinridge County.
In District 1, Mayfield has wrapped up the No. 1 seed. The winner of Friday’s Murray/Ballard Memorial game will be the No. 2 seed and loser will be the No. 3 seed. Webster will be the No. 4 seed even if they pull off the upset of the millennium Friday against Mayfield.
If Todd County does indeed get the No. 3 seed as expected, they will likely travel to Murray in the first round of the playoffs.
