BOWLING GREEN, Ky. (Oct. 15, 2018) – As part of Governor Matt Bevin’s commitment to prioritize transportation infrastructure projects and increase economic opportunity across the Commonwealth, the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet (KYTC) is pleased to announce $100,075 in discretionary funds have been awarded to the Todd County Fiscal Court for vital resurfacing work on Tabernacle Road. The county will receive reimbursement for repairs to correct large sections of roadway cracking and potholes.

“The Bevin Administration continues to focus on taking care of what we have at both the state and local level to address critical infrastructure needs that improve safety and support job creation and retention,” said KYTC Secretary Greg Thomas. “This funding builds upon existing transportation investments and allows the Cabinet to collaborate with local governments to identify projects that will have large impacts to communities.”
Todd County Judge-Executive Todd Mansfield identified these roads as being among the most critical in the county.

“On behalf of the Todd County Fiscal Court and the citizens of Todd County, I would like to thank Gov. Bevin, the Transportation Cabinet and Rep. Jason Petrie for their work to secure funding for Tabernacle Road,” said Judge-Executive Mansfield. “This road is a vital connector to US 68/80 for many Todd County citizens. The approval of these funds shows the concern Governor Bevin has for all counties.”

Tabernacle Road is a connector route between KY 508 and US 68/KY 80 and following multiple years of harsh winters and severe flooding events, the roadway posed safety concerns to motorists and residents in the area. In addition to being a connector route, Tabernacle Road directly serves Todd County school buses, multiple churches and residents. The roadway also supports large farm machinery for the local farmers and commercial agricultures businesses nearby.

“The Transportation Cabinet’s investment to maintain this road provides safe and reliable access for residents, buses and businesses who depend on it daily to get to what matters most to them,” said Sen. Whitney Westerfield.

Projects submitted to the Department of Rural and Municipal Aid for discretionary fund consideration were evaluated by the KYTC district staff to assess the condition of roads and determine the most critical needs based on factors such as safety, economic impact, and traffic volumes.

“This road is an important gateway in the community and I am thankful that the Administration is supporting needed repairs that keep citizens connected and safe,” said Rep. Jason Petrie.

The Todd County Fiscal Court is responsible for administering the work and KYTC will reimburse the county for the projects.
